Winter RV Maintenance

posted on
It’s the time of the year when the days are shorter, and the nights are colder, and for those of us who are RV lovers, the adventures of RV life may slow down. Typically, the end of falls often means its time to put your recreational vehicle (RV) away until the warmer weather returns in the spring. Taking the time to prepare your RV before you store it for the winter may help the long-term protection of your investment. RV Maintenance in Florida, North Carolina

You want your RV to be ready to go when spring arrives, so performing some pre-storage task and winterization will help to ensure your RV will be ready. Some RV owners continue their adventures by heading for warmer weathers, but if you are planning on winterizing your RV, we have some tips to help.

  • Prepare the exterior of your RV by checking for any holes and cracks on the roof, sidewalls, seams, or windows that need to be resealed. Make sure to check with your RV dealer to make sure you use the right sealant for your RV and your climate.
  • Drain all water out of the pipes and pump antifreeze into the water system. Any water left in the plumbing system can freeze and break fittings and lines and cause damage that may be costly to repair.
  • If your RV will be outside all winter, use an RV cover specially designed for your RV and climate to protect against extended exposure to UV rays which can damage the paint. Make sure Cover is put on tight to keep moisture and wind out.
  • Disconnect the batteries and store them in a cool and dry place. Freezing temperatures can damage or destroy the batteries.
  • Use a fuel stabilizer that will prevent deposits from forming. Gas goes bad over time and forms a sticky deposit which can damage your engine.
  • Make sure tires are covered and properly inflated to the recommended capacity. Exposure to UV rays can also damage tires.
Follow these tips to help ensure your RV is ready to hit the road again in the spring. Always check up on your RV periodically to make sure that all is good. Check for water penetration, odor, or exterior damage and have any problem repaired right away.  Contact McGee Commercial Tire & Services for your RV auto repair maintenance needs in Florida and North Carolina.
