Tire Retreading: Quality and Sustainability with Goodyear

Tire retreading is the process of replacing the worn tread on a tire, extending its life and improving performance. This environmentally friendly practice reduces waste and conserves resources by revitalizing tires that still have a solid casing.

Shop for Goodyear Retreads

Goodyear offers several retread technologies, from the spliceless construction of its premium UniCircle® retreads to its untraditional pressure retreads to Goodyear's new Gold Medallion Retreads that meet the premium casing specifications of large national fleets. Whether you operate long-haul, regional, or mixed service trucks, you can get the performance you need by choosing from Goodyear's application-specific tread designs.

Why Should You Choose Commercial Tire Retreading?

  • Save on Operation Costs: Retreaded tires are significantly less expensive than new commercial tires, offering substantial savings for businesses and consumers. By re-using an existing tire casing and adding new tread, you receive a more efficient cost per mile of your tires. Each casing can have up to three or four lives, which means there is typically an opportunity to save on tire costs three or four times per tire.
  • Contribute to a Better Environment: Retreading reduces landfill waste and the carbon footprint associated with tire production. It is an ecologically friendly approach compared to the manufacture of new tires.
  • Get High-Quality Tires: As an authorized Goodyear Tire Retreader, we adhere to stringent quality standards, ensuring safety and reliability. Goodyear retreads maintain high performance, providing excellent traction and durability. It is a myth that retread tires are not safe for drivers. Many of the rubber found on highways and interstates comes from drivers who continued driving on a flat tire, and most of those torn flats were new tires. With today's retreading processes, it is virtually impossible for a casing to separate from its tread. Nearly every major airline operates retreads.

How Are Tires Retreaded?

  • Inspection: Each tire undergoes a thorough inspection to assess its condition and suitability for retreading.
  • Preparation: The old tire tread is buffed down to ensure that the new tire tread can adequately adhere to your tire.
  • Repair: Any damage to the sidewalls or casings that could impact tire safety is repaired.
  • Retread Application: New tread material is applied using advanced techniques to ensure a strong bond.
  • Curing: The retreaded tire is cured in a controlled environment for optimal performance and longevity.
  • Final Inspection: A final quality check guarantees that each retreaded tire meets Goodyear's high standards.

Where Can You Get Tires Retreaded?

McGee Commercial Tire & Services operated two retread locations:

We Perform Shearography Inspections

We offer shearography inspections. Not every retread facility performs this type of inspection, but McGee Commercial Tire & Services is among the few businesses that does.

How Does Shearography Work?

A shearography inspection is a non-destructive testing method used to assess the structural integrity of commercial retread tires, focusing on detecting defects such as delaminations, voids, and other anomalies that compromise safety and performance. This advanced technique employs laser technology to create a detailed surface map of the tire, analyzing how it responds to stress and identifying any irregularities in its layers. These inspections play a critical role in ensuring that retreaded tires meet safety standards and performance criteria. By utilizing shearography, operators can extend the lifespan of tires, reduce waste, and enhance overall fleet safety, making it an invaluable tool in the retreading industry.

GTRACS

The Goodyear GTRACS app provides status updates on your tires during the retread process, so you stay informed every step of the way. This innovative technology provides tire tracking information using barcodes. When a commercial truck tire is brought to one of Goodyear's Truckwise locations for repairs or retreading, it is marked with a barcode. The barcode is scanned at every workstation throughout the retread process, so you can track your service and performance records.Featuring advanced analytics, the GTRACS app enables users to make informed decisions about retreading schedules, optimizing tire usage and reducing operational costs.

Once your tires are serviced or retreaded, Goodyear will provide charts and graphs that show the efficiency of each tire or retread, so you can see what combination of tires works best in the long run. Qualified fleet customers can even access this information online with Fleethq. Whether you're managing a national or local fleet, Goodyear's GTRACS gives you valuable information about your tires and retreads. This data will help you make informed tire decisions that can save your fleet lots of money.

The app's user-friendly interface simplifies data entry and retrieval, so critical information is always at your fingertips.
